If i start a waitress job will i loose my unemployment claims?

I am claiming unemployment money since October 08 when i was laid off. I have been offered a job as a waitress making $4/hr plus tips. Can i still claim unemployment or do i have to stop getting an unemployment check just because i start a part time job.

If its off the books you don’t have to worry. If any income is on the books, then you do.

If you win your unemployment claim, you will receive back benefits from the time you became unemployed up to the time you start the waitress job. Make sure the Employment Office is aware that you have gotten a part-time job. Your unemployment benefits (from the time you start working) will then be adjusted.

You could lose it if you are on the books, but some restaurants let employees work off the books and then unemployment never finds out you are working because their is no activity going on with your social security number.

Unfortunately once you are on a payroll you will loose your unemployment.

    You’re too slow. You’re fired.

most states split the difference and you just lose what you make. Check it out, and feel proud that you are working to support yourself. I know many people that don’t have enough self respect to try to get back on their feet. You should be proud to be someone that keeps fighting and not planning to live on the system.

Typically you are allowed to make a certain amount of income and still get full benefits. Try calling UI and find out !!!

What you absolutely DON’t want to do is LIE, and file illegal and false claims stating that you din’t work and didn’t make any income. The company you work for HAS to file their own payroll reports to the government, and you will get nailed for fraud/theft of UI benefits. At the absolute LEAST, you will have to pay back every dime of UI that you were not entitled to, along with fines and possible criminal charges depending on the extent of the fraud. You might not get nailed right away. You will get nailed three years down the road, just when things are going well for you again. Guaranteed !!
