you certainly need a resume
Yes – I employ people all the time and I always ask for a covering letter. If no letter then the applicant is not even considered. I look at the covering letter from a written perspective. ie can the applicant write proper english, spelling errors, presentation etc.
You will stand out.
I guess its just like most jobs, it requires u to write a cover letter and resume. After all, i always believe the cover letter is a basic summary of what you write in your resume. My friend in Human Resources tell me that sometimes, when you have so many people applying for 1 job, she usually tends to look at the cover letter to save time reading the resume.
No harm trying it out :)
Absolutely! It shows you are professional, well-organized, and have great interest in getting a job there.
Use a business letter format including a personal letterhead (MS Word has several templates to choose from.) K.I.S.S – Keep it short sweetie.. no more than 3-4 paragraphs. Make sure the cover letter isn’t a repeat of your resume.
1: Your introduction paragraph should state what the job is that you are applying for (i.e. title) and where you learned about the job opening.
2: The next paragraph should highlight key skill-set or previous experience, track record, and education – if applicable. (I have worked in the retail/service industry for 5 years including a supervisory role…). Also include something about your personal attributes in this paragraph (I am dedicated to excellence in customer service….).
3: Close with a bold statement. (I would like to arrange a meeting to further discuss how (company name) can benefit from my employment. Include your contact information again (even though it’s already on there).
Good Luck to you! Email me if you need further help.
