Can you file for unemployment if you quit your job to begin a full-time program at a college?

My grandmother told me to quit the job that I hate and get a degree. She suggested that I file for unemployment and that if I start attending school immediately after I quit my job, I’ll get paid through unemployment. Is that true?

Here is the useful info. for you regarding the eligibility for Unemployment Insurance

    1. I was fired from my job. Will I be eligible?

When an employee is fired and files a claim for UI benefits, EDD sends a Notice of Claim Filed, DE 1101CZ to the last employer. The employer may report information about the discharge by responding to this notice in writing.

The Department will contact you and the employer to get a more complete understanding of how the job ended. The information is usually obtained by telephone approximately two weeks after the claim has been filed. Based on this information, we determine whether or not you are eligible according to state law and regulations. Each case is decided individually.
