Career coaches have told that 40 plus job seekers should add a sense of “urgency” while working on this activity but other coaches have also said that showing “urgency” is not advisable because it can eliminate candidates because they are “desperate”.
What is the better approach and why? Please provide pros and cons.

I’m a manager and don’t necessarily find “value” (of an applicant) in a sense of urgency. But, I do like to see motivation, ambition, passion, and drive. Worded incorrectly, those can appear “desperate”.
Expand your search. Maybe you want to do something in a related field. An example might be financial planning.
I’m sorry I’m not really sure what the best approach is, but 40+ and a CPA…and assuming this means you have several years of accounting experience, you should be fine.
With SOX creating such a need for experienced accountants, I would think the job market would be hot for, and you could be selective. Taking some seminars in SOX is probably a good idea too if you have already.
I wouldn’t say coming off as “urgent” is the best approach, but some follow-up helps to reinforce your interest.
I guess it would also depend where you are located though.
I’m just starting my career in accounting…hope to sit for the CPA exam sometime next year. I need some advice too!!! =)
Best Wishes to you!
