Learn HOW TO WRITE A RESUME : HOW TO WRITE A COVER LETTER : HOW TO LAND A JOB
Could a full year gap in my resume hurt my chances to find a good job?

I was working for a company for 5 years then I was let go for a policy violation.
Then another company hired me a year later, the company I was working
for closed down the division I was working at. So I only worked for them for 8
months. Will it be tough to find a job with a full year without a job on my resume.

  1. Daniel John says:

If it was recent, yes. If it’s coming up (you’re just now laid off) find something to do. Employers like to see you’ve kept yourself active. If you can’t find anything good, volunteer. i.e. Let’s say you’re a computer person, volunteer your computer services to the local Animal Shelter, and redo their internet site for them, or if you were a manager, throw together a volunteer drive or something.

    Keep yourself busy.

Even 8 months dolling out soup at a soup kitchen looks better than 8 months watching Oprah. Gaps look bad.
