i just got out of the military and am looking for a job around the hampton roads (norfolk, virginia beach) area. i tried monster, but seems like no ones interested. can you refer me to a few job search websites? thank you.

A company I am interviewing with is asking for reference from my last employer.I have provided references from prior employers, but they want to talk to my last company. Problem is, the policy of my last company is not to provide references. What should I do?

Career coaches have told that 40 plus job seekers should add a sense of “urgency” while working on this activity but other coaches have also said that showing “urgency” is not advisable because it can eliminate candidates because they are “desperate”.
What is the better approach and why? Please provide pros and cons.

What kind of program or service do they use to search for an applicant’s former employer information? Do they only call the employers listed on your application? There are a couple short-term employers that I’ve had in the past that I don’t ever list because I didn’t leave on good terms (I quit without notice). I used to work in HR and we only called employers on the application, we didn’t do indepth searches. I’m just wondering how corporate employers do their background checks for employment history.

I’m looking for a job – like telemarketing. I’m in college. A lot of places are telling me that they won’t work around my schedule.

At some telemarketing jobs they are telling me I need 2 years experience. How do I get experience if I can’t get a job ?

What kind of jobs should I look for where I don’t need much experience but are also day shift jobs because I have a child.

How many applications should I be filling out a week?

I was laid off from my union job last year. I spent money to go to other union halls to sign up and see if i could get a job. I spent money on gas, food and lodging which I kept track up. Are these all deductible and if so do they have to go on that form 2106 or can I just list them and take the full amounts for a deduction?
